A 175 kilometre drive north east of Rockhampton, the road from the Bruce Highway takes you through cattle stations, wetlands and open plains until you reach the remote township of Stanage Bay. The village has numerous accommodation options available from campsites and self contained house.
Known locally as a fishing hotspot, eager angles can try their luck on the water with reef fish and barramundi, or try a bit of crabbing closer to home. The hilly coastline offers spectacular views and the eagle eyed visitor can often spot whales, turtles and dugongs, and the many deserted beaches are a refreshing place to take a dig.
