NRMA Parks and Resorts’ Turtle Sands at Mon Repos has just celebrated its first birthday, marking a successful year of welcoming guests to the Southern Great Barrier Reef.
Located behind the dunes at Mon Repos Beach and home to the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australia mainland, Turtle Sands provides a unique guest experience. Guests are offered front-row access to one of the world’s most remarkable wildlife encounters, with the chance to experience the seasonal nesting and hatching of turtles at this globally significant site for marine turtle activity.
Turtle Sands has also achieved eco-certification, further recognising its commitment to environmental outcomes and offering trade partners confidence in promoting a property that blends accommodation with meaningful environmental stewardship.
As part of this commitment, the resort has been carefully designed under federal environmental approval to minimise impacts to turtles and their nesting habitat. This includes sensitive building design and lighting controls, dune-friendly landscaping, reduced beach access points, and a guest education program that encourages responsible behaviour through our Turtle Protection Promise. During our first season our guests were fortunate to witness a record nesting season; the biggest turtle turnout in 50 years with more than 500 turtles returning to lay over 265,000 eggs.
