An a-bund-ance of Charm!

Bundaberg is a progressive cosmopolitan city just 360 kilometres north of Brisbane and 13 kilometres from the coast.  Visitors are well catered for in this dynamic, modern riverside city with a wide choice of accommodation and shopping, restaurants and eateries and a host of exciting attractions.  Historic buildings and modern architecture blend seamlessly with a busy central business district full of parks and gardens to make Bundaberg an attractive, regional city with a touch of country charm.  The “Whaling Wall" mural, painted by world-renowned environmental artist Wyland, is a dominant 7-storey landmark in the city centre and provides a year-round reminder of our marine friends.

Bundaberg produces one fifth of Queensland's sugar crop and is surrounded by a green sea of sugar cane. The real flavour of Queensland (and the genuine Aussie spirit) can be found at the Bundaberg Rum Distillery in East Bundaberg, with tours operating daily throughout the year.  Nearby, Schmeider's Cooperage & Craft Centre offers a unique glimpse into local arts & craft, with glass blowing and timber-working displays and a beautiful array of locally made artefacts.  Not far away is the Big Barrel, Visitor Centre for Bundaberg Brewed drinks, who offer one of the most entertaining tours you are likley to see.  In North Bundaberg, the Bundaberg Botanical Gardens feature winding boardwalks through beautiful landscapes. These parklands showcase Bundaberg's history, and you can enjoy a leisurely ride on a restored coal-fired steam train or visit the Fairymead House Sugar Museum.

Within a brief lifetime of forty years, Bundaberg's favourite son Bert Hinkler became one of the world's greatest pioneer aviators, and within the Botanical Gardens precinct you can discover the Southampton home that he designed and lived in from 1926 until his death in 1933 .  Brick by brick the house was relocated and faithfully restored and is now an aviation museum, known as the Hinkler House Memorial Museum.  The fascinating Bundaberg Railway Museum is located nearby and houses a wealth of railway memorabilia. Bundaberg also offers golf, fishing, swimming, a leisure complex, sports, cycling and walking as just some of the many activities on offer, with art and cultural exhibitions appearing all year at the Bundaberg Arts Centre.

As well as permanent attractions, Bundaberg features a variety of major seasonal events including Agro Trend Agricultural Festival in May, our annual Sunrise Multicultural Food & Wine Festival in November, and Turtle watching season from November to March. Only 15 minutes from Bundaberg, the Mon Repos Turtle Rookery preserves Australia's most important mainland turtle-nesting beach.  Tours are conducted by Queensland Parks & Wildlife Rangers nightly from November until the end of March, with tickets available from any Bundaberg Region Visitor Information Centre.  A range of accommodation and activities can be found nearby in charming coastal villages like Bargara Beach, Innes Park and Moore Park Beach.

Bundaberg is the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef and our two coral cays of Lady Musgrave and Lady Elliot, Fitzroy Reef Lagoon and the fringing reefs of the Woongarra Marine Park right on the shoreline, are a snorkelling, fishing and diving paradise.

Accommodation choices range from 4½ star motels, self-contained cabins and standard motel rooms, to bed & breakfasts, caravan & camping parks and backpacker hostels.  Bundaberg Region Visitor Information can book all your accommodation, even before you arrive!  To find out more information or to make your booking, contact us on 1800 30 8888, or visit any of our blue and yellow accredited visitor information centres at Bundaberg City, Bundaberg West, the Coral Coast or Gin Gin.
